History of Oaklawn Cemetery
Oaklawn Cemetery was formed in 1892. The original board
members elected were:
James Howlett, President
DE
Bowen, Treasurer
CM
Cleveland, Secretary.
In
1893, the cemetery board purchased the schoolhouse and .5
acres of land for the cemetery from School District #2 for
$52.00. Lots were sold for $5.00 each. The first burial
was in 1893. Today, the cemetery occupies five aces and 500
plots, 325 which are occupied or sold. Visitors admire its
wooded and finely manicured lawn-scape.

Alice Howlett 1805-1852 buried 1893.
Oldest person buried:
William Howlett 1831-1930 99 yrs old.

Care for the grounds
Staff from Oaklawn Cemetery maintain all
cemetery lots. As they care for these areas, staff may
remove live or artificial funeral designs, floral
arrangements or any other items that have deteriorated.
This helps keep the grounds clean and attractive.
